Wake Wise Education Project
We have published a new pamphlet titled "Be Wake Wise". The purpose of this pamphlet is to educate people on wakes and the impacts of large boat wakes on Crescent Lake's ecosystems, wildlife, and human safety. Impacts of large wakes include:
• Erosion of shoreline and wetlands
• Scouring of lake bottom, damaging fish habitat and stirring up phosphorous (effects water quality)
• Damage to loon nests and eggs
• Safety hazards for nearby small craft and swimmers
• Damage to docks and moored boats
Of particular concern are wakes in excess of 3’ in height, which are generated by both slow speed activities such as “plowing the water” while tubing, as well as large wakes generated by wake boats.

Following these guidelines will help maintain the water quality of the lake, protect wildlife, and ensure the safety of all sharing the water.

Spring Message From Our President
Greetings from the Crescent Lake Watershed Association Board of Directors. A new season of summer enjoyment on and near Crescent Lake approaches! Ice out for the lake occurred somewhere near April 2 –4, depending on which end of the lake you viewed! Ice out is a fascinating event if you have never witnessed it. As temperatures warm during the months of March and April, the ice begins to darken, and the texture of the ice softens. Slowly patches of water begin to appear along the shoreline. As the lake water warms and the darkening and melting hastens, the shoreline tension finally releases and typically the wind driven ice begins its journey to the southern end of the lake. One of my fondest memories is sitting by the lakeside with my late parents and watching the ice begin its annual journey down the lake.2021 hopefully will bring new lifelong memories of our time at the lake. Our efforts to preserve the precious resource that Crescent Lake is are critical to making sure that these memories continue for us all and for future generations. Your membership is the lifeblood of these efforts! Without your membership and support we would not be able to support the programs such as Courtesy Boat Inspections, Invasive Plant Patrolling, and promoting sound lakeside practices and behaviors I ask that you please remember to renew your membership or if not a current member to consider joining. You can also volunteer from the website. We need your support now and in the future!

Take care and may you all enjoy the lake in the summer of 2021!
Russ Hutchinson
