Wake Wise Education Project
We have published a new pamphlet titled "Be Wake Wise". The purpose of this pamphlet is to educate people on wakes and the impacts of large boat wakes on Crescent Lake's ecosystems, wildlife, and human safety. Impacts of large wakes include:
• Erosion of shoreline and wetlands
• Scouring of lake bottom, damaging fish habitat and stirring up phosphorous (effects water quality)
• Damage to loon nests and eggs
• Safety hazards for nearby small craft and swimmers
• Damage to docks and moored boats
Of particular concern are wakes in excess of 3’ in height, which are generated by both slow speed activities such as “plowing the water” while tubing, as well as large wakes generated by wake boats.

Following these guidelines will help maintain the water quality of the lake, protect wildlife, and ensure the safety of all sharing the water.

                          CLIPPER REPORT 2022

The Clipper Team, a group of local volunteers from around the lake, successfully monitored the existing seventeen sectors of the Crescent Lake shoreline. These sectors were monitored from mid to late summer with the intent of identifying all plant species, both native and invasive.  The reporting concluded that we have many native aquatic plants and NO KNOWN INVASIVE PLANTS were found in Crescent Lake in 2022.  These findings were compiled and sent to the State as has been done in the past.

A huge THANKS to our dedicated Clipper Team of volunteers and Diane Hebold, our Interim Clipper Team Coordinator.

The 2023 Clipper season will be coordinated by CLWA board member Dave Perazone.

President's  Message
Greetings Friends of Crescent Lake!

As 2022 has ended and we look forward to a New Year, I want to remind everyone of a key ingredient to the success of our lake stewardship.
                                           VOLUNTEERS!!
Our organization is dependent on people just like you and me to step forward to ensure that our efforts to protect and preserve the lake are successful. The CLWA board and consultants are an all-volunteer group. We meet monthly to review and discuss matters of importance to the lake’s health. Outside the meetings board members spend many hours working on various tasks and initiatives such as lake monitoring and water testing, invasive plant patrolling, program administration, educational efforts, mailings and outreach. And it is not just board members doing this work. There are non-board members as well, who participate in the CLIPPERs (Crescent Lake Invasive Plant Patrollers) and lake monitoring programs.

Sadly, in late summer of 2022, CLWA lost two incredible volunteers. Locke MacDonald passed away on September 11 and Lisa Hall passed away September 12.

Lisa and Locke were wonderful examples of what volunteers can mean to an organization. Lisa was our CLIPPers coordinator as well as a former board member and recently a board consultant. Lisa spent many hours out on the lake searching for invasive plants and as well as teaching and mentoring new CLIPPers. Lisa was also an active member of the RWPA ( Raymond Waterways Protective Association) board.  Additionally, her late husband Ron Hall was a founding member of and former president of the CLWA board.

Locke MacDonald was CLWA’s Vice President / Treasurer. Like Lisa, Locke also volunteered as a board member for RWPA. In this RWPA capacity, Locke donated countless hours of his time to administering and overseeing the Courtesy Boat Inspection program, not just for Crescent Lake, but for all the locations served by RWPA. Without people like Locke and Lisa, no volunteer organization can accomplish the important work we do.

CLWA’s purpose is to promote the protection and enhancement of the water quality of Crescent Lake and to preserve its ecological, economic, recreational and aesthetic value. Volunteering is critical to our ability to support and sustain this purpose.

Thank you for your support.
Russ Hutchinson
President, CLWA
