CLWA Announces 2016 Recipients of the LakeSmart Award

Linda and Charlie Whitten receive LakeSmart Award at CLWA Annual Meeting
     In September 2016, Ray Bersch and Carol Friend of Hancock Road and Russ and Deb Hutchinson, also of Hancock Road, were found to meet the qualifications for the LakeSmart Award, according to Hugh Savage, LakeSmart Coordinator for the Crescent Lake Watershed Association (CLWA).

     Also, at the CLWA annual meeting in July 2016, Linda and Charlie Whitten of Haskell Rd. were recognized for having qualified for the LakeSmart Award.

     The LakeSmart Award is presented to those who qualify in recognition of their outstanding efforts in the design, landscaping, and maintenance of their property in a manner that protects the water quality of Crescent Lake.


Some actions this award represents are:
  • Maintain native vegetation as a buffer
  • Minimize lawn size and use of fertilizer (to avoid buildup of phosphorous in the water)
  • Keep shoreline stable by not disturbing vegetation and rocks
  • Make paths stable and winding
  • Plant vegetation downhill of parking area   

In summary, the award is given in recognition of "living lightly on the land for the sake of the lake."
